How to Talk to People About Things Workshop

I help groups of people talk to each other more effectively. I've worked with many organizations running meetings, retreats, planning sessions, panels and conferences.

In meetings, I help people talk clearly about what really matters. At conferences, I help organizers use participatory models like Open Space and Unconferences, to make conferences into places where participants can really connect and learn from one another.

My workshops teach these same skills and tools to help people communicate better at work, become a more effective team, have difficult conversations in a productive way, and transform conflict into collaboration.

I use a framework developed by the Harvard Law School's Program on Negotiation, which teaches a mutual gain model for finding creative solutions in otherwise intractable communication barriers.

Services Offered

Facilitation - I can help you get the most out of planning sessions, strategic retreats, conferences, and offsite leadership meetings. I will work with you to determine goals, develop the best structure for the day, and help run the event to involve each stakeholder and participant.

Communication & Negotiation Workshops - I can help you and your colleagues learn the skills and tools to talk about what really matters. This workshop uses material from Harvard Law School's Program on Negotiation. These exercises and role-plays provide insight into the barriers to good communication, and will teach you how to climb over them individually and as a team. This course can help you learn how to communicate better, reach better agreements, resolve differences with others, and improve your skills at talking about tough issues. It's highly participatory, a lot of fun, and a really effective way to get better at these tremendously useful skills.

Keynote - For groups that don't have the time for a full workshop, or a group too large for hands-on learning — I've distilled the key lessons on how to communicate and negotiate into a brass tacks keynote. It's part crash course, part lecture, and a great introduction to better team dynamics.
