Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance do I need to book?

The more notice you are able to give us, the better chance of getting your desired time slot.  We typically book up about a week before the date for midweek lessons and two weeks on weekends.  If it’s less notice than that, however, give us a call and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.

What is Wakeboarding?

Wakeboarding comes from the boardsports family, where both feet are riding one board standing sideways.The rider is pulled behind a motorized boat or pulley cable system on top of the water. Wakeboarding utilizes the wake of the boat to perform gymnastic style tricks.

If I've never waterskied before, will I be able to wakeboard?

Yes!  Waterskiing and wakeboarding differ in that skiing allows you to have independent function of each ski - with wakeboarding you are one unit with the board. We will break down the learning process and give you step-by-step instruction in the boat as well as in the water.

Is there a minimum age to wakeboard?

There is no defined age you need to be to start wakeboarding.  We have taught students as young as 4 and as old as 65. You should be comfortable floating in the water on your own and if needed, one of our coaches will assist you in the water.

Do I have to have a specific boat to wakeboard?

No, wakeboarding is possible behind any motorized watercraft with enough power to pull you out and on top of the water. Wakeboarding boats are specifically designed to make your experience easier and more enjoyable with certain features such as the towing tower, engine placement and hull design.

Where is Muskoka Wake located?

Muskoka Wake serves Lake of Bays, Lake Muskoka, Lake Joseph and Lake Rosseau and can meet you at your cottage or a public dock within the four lakes.

If we aren't located on one of those four lakes will you still come to us?

Yes, one of our services is a private lesson behind a customer boat. We will come to you no matter where you are. If you would like us to bring our boat, we will do our best to accommodate you.

Do you offer wakesurfing?

Yes! Muskoka Wake has offered wakesurfing since we started in 2011, but due to its growing popularity and new technology like the Malibu Surf Gate, wakesurfing is now a large part of our business.

What is wakesurfing?

Wakesurfing is a water sport in which a surfer trails behind a wakeboard boat, surfing the boat’s wake without being directly attached to the boat. The wake from the boat mimics the look and feel of an actual ocean wave. After getting up on the wave by use of a tow rope, wake surfers drop the rope and ride the steep face below the wave’s peak in a fashion reminiscent of ocean surfing. Wake surfers generally use special boards, usually five feet or shorter.

Is wakesurfing unsafe because I'm so close to the boat?

Although it looks like you’re close, you will always be 6-12 feet off of the boat.  If you do fall forward, the boats forward momentum will be far out of your way by the time you fall.  With the help of Malibu’s surf exhaust system, carbon emissions are sent behind the rider, giving them fresh air to breathe in.

What is flyboarding?

The Flyboard is a water jet board that connects to a jet ski. The flyer’s feet are strapped onto the board. The power from the jet ski converts in to a 45 foot hose and out the jet outlets on the board.

Is flyboarding dangerous?

Although it looks dangerous, flyboarding is meant to be very safe and graceful for beginners.  With our knowledgeable and experienced staff controlling your flight, we’ll make sure you’re never flown beyond your comfort zone and abilities.  You’ll also be wearing a helmet and coast guard approved life jacket for added safety.

Is there a minimum age to flyboard?

There is no minimum age required to flyboard, but due to the power of the system, you must be a minimum 80 pounds to fly.
